Who We Are

The Iasmos Culture Club

The Iasmos Culture Club was founded in 1983 and, from its establishment to this day, has been a steady and active nucleus of cultural life for Iasmos and the wider region.

Over all these years of continuous presence, and with more than 400 members, it has developed a rich and multifaceted body of work, with the core aim of preserving, protecting and showcasing the local cultural heritage, as well as creating opportunities for participation and creative expression for people of every age.

Through its groups, its events and its varied activities, the Club serves tradition, art, music and culture, while contributing to the cultural life and social cohesion of the place.

The Museum of Agricultural and Cultural Heritage of Iasmos

A particularly significant achievement of the Culture Club is the creation, upkeep and running of the Museum of Agricultural and Cultural Heritage of Iasmos, a place dedicated to collecting, safeguarding and showcasing the history, the traditions and the everyday life of the people of Iasmos and the wider region of Rodopi.

The Museum holds a rich folklore collection of agricultural tools, traditional costumes, objects of everyday use and other testimonies of local life, which recount the history and the way of life of earlier generations.

Each object is a small piece of the collective memory of the place. Through them emerge the work, the daily habits, the customs, the crafts and the traditions of the people who lived and created in Iasmos.

The Museum is not merely a place where old objects are exhibited. It is a living space of memory and knowledge, which seeks to keep contact with the past and to pass on the cultural heritage of the place to younger generations.

Open to visitors of all ages, it is a bridge between the past and the present, offering older visitors the chance to recognise elements of their own lives and younger ones the chance to discover a world that no longer exists, yet remains an important part of the history and the identity of Iasmos.

The Culture Club is responsible for the care and the running of the Museum, through the maintenance of the space and the collections, the welcoming and guiding of visitors, and the continuous effort to keep the collective memory alive and to connect the cultural heritage of Iasmos with the present and with younger generations.
