The bridge stands between the settlements of Iasmos and Polyanthos, where the Kompsatos River emerges from the Rhodope Mountains onto the Thracian plain. It lies approximately 500 metres north of the present-day bridge on the Xanthi–Komotini provincial road via Iasmos.

Originally, it had three arches supported by two piers and two abutments, running from west to east. The central arch, slightly raised above the others, was the largest, with a span of 21.80 metres and a height of 12 metres.

Believed to have been built by master stonemasons from Epirus, the bridge dates to the 17th–18th century.

Today, the central and eastern arches, along with the eastern abutment, remain standing.
